Best Natural Anti-Inflammatory.
Joint pain affects many people especially as we grow older. It comes as no surprise that chronic joint pain, like many other pains, affects many aspects of our lives. It can become too disturbing to deal with and many resorts to popping pills and painkillers to deal with it as they are very fast and efficient in dealing with your chronic pain. But these chemical-laden remedies do not come without problems and issues of their own. For example;
- The active ingredient in the medicine Tylenol is Acetaminophen. Around the world people’s livers are failing due to overconsumption of acetaminophen.
- Aspirin has been linked to bleeding disorders, more than once.
- While Ibuprofen is generally considered very safe, but it is bound to cause severe damage to your digestive system if you tend to take it every single day.
- Last but not the least, prescription pain killers come with their own risks which cannot be taken for granted.
So, while these medications can be quick in reducing your pain, they come with their own set of problems as well. Therefore, they should be used as little as possible.
Luckily, there are a lot of natural remedies with virtually 0 downsides to them that actually help with chronic joint pain like nothing else can help. These remedies attack the main reason behind the pain that is; inflammation.
If one is able to reduce their inflammation, your chronic pain is also bound to go down by many tiers as it is this inflammation that actually causes pain. Your body and thus, your joints, will feel less stiff and you will be able to move around very easily.
A healthy diet consisting of fresh fruits and vegetables and a whole of water certainly help you but sometimes you need a little extra help to keep you on your toes.
To be able to get complete benefit from these natural products, we’ll be sharing a secret recipe for an oil that you can apply topically on your skin and your joints. The mixture has two active ingredients namely, olive and salt. Rubbing it into your painful joints can do wonders for your pain. However, first, let’s look into the ingredients on their own, individually.
Olive Oil has highly been recommended by doctors and physicians alike, over any other type of oil. The reason behind this is that olive oil is naturally extracted unlike most other oils which are chemically created. It also contains a significant number of an antioxidant called polyphenols. This is responsible for slowing down the ageing of the cells in your body. Which means that serious conditions like arthritis take very long to affect you so in depth and reach inside your cells that you start feeling pain.
Another positive point for olive oil is that it also directly attacks inflammation on your skin through a compound called oleocanthal. This compound is basically responsible for preventing enzymes that cause inflammation in your body. It actually stops the enzyme from ever getting activated for it to harm you. Ibuprofen used the exact same mechanism to lower inflammation, but this process does not have any downsides to it unlike chemical medications.
Sea Salt is different from table salt. Sea salt is much more nutritious for you than the normal table salt. The reason behind it is that the table salt is processed rather than harvested. Which means, many minerals from it have been removed to prevent clumping. Whereas, sea salt is a lot grainier and contains a lot of minerals along with magnesium, potassium, calcium, copper and even zinc! However, since sea salt is harvested, the benefits and level of minerals in it may vary from place to place.
Despite having much more minerals than table salt, sea salt has around the same amount of sodium as table salt does. Sodium is extremely bad for arthritis patients as it is known to cause severe inflammation in people. Therefore, one must try to avoid consuming sea salt directly and try to get all these minerals and vitamins from other food sources. Sea salt should only be used to rub on the skin and not ingested. When rubbed on the skin and massaged with, you can gain the benefits of its minerals without having to actually ingest it.
Magnesium can prove to be very helpful for arthritis patients as a lack of magnesium has been linked to an inflammation rise in people. Other than reducing inflammation, magnesium can be said to favor many other bodily processes and make your life much easier than it already is. It increases energy levels; it speeds up your brain function and many other areas as well.
Potassium is a very important mineral as well. It has a lot of importance in your body, some of them being able to keep your muscles strong and working effectively and efficiently. Reliable and constant support of your muscles is extremely important when you have chronic joint pains as without your muscles being strong enough, you may not be able to function normally. Building strong muscles for yourself, especially if you have chronic joint pains, can do wonders for you.
Last but not the least, Sea Salt itself can do wonders and it has been constantly linked to a healthy immune system. Basically, inflammation in your body is an immune response that is important for whenever you get injured or in certain conditions. Unfortunately, if it gets out of hand it can cause severe pain and much unneeded problems. One way to improve your problem is through a very healthy diet including fresh vegetables and fruits and loads of water. But one way to improve it, which usually gets ignored is, stress reduction. This bring us to discuss the massage that is needed.
Massaging your painful joints can be an excellent way to reduce pain. There are a couple of reasons behind this, first reason is that it relaxes your body and joints and reduces the stress build up in your muscles. Stress really brings up the inflammation in our bodies. The second most important reason for it is that it increases the blood flow to the affected areas which are very painful and hurt.
One important thing to keep in mind during the massage of areas laden with inflammation is that your massage should be very gentle. This is extremely important as too much pressure on your skin will cause micro-tears in your skin and in your muscle fibers. In normal circumstances, it is a good thing for some micro tears since it builds stronger muscles but when dealing with arthritis patients, it is the last thing you would want. The reason behind this is that these micro tears also cause inflammation on the skin which is exactly what we’re supposed to be avoiding.
Making the oil
The recipe is very straightforward and very easy to make. It contains;
- 1 cup (200 ml) water
- 20 tablespoons (300 ml) of olive oil
- 10 tablespoons (150 ml) of sea salt
Make sure you mix the ingredients well and then store it somewhere safe. Storing it in a spray bottle would help you in applying it more easily and evenly to your body. However, make sure you shake it before using it to mix in all the products once again. Just spray it over your muscles and create a light coat over your joints, massage your muscles gently until you feel better.
It would be better to start off with just a minute of two, but then gradually increase the massage time up-to even 15 minutes per day!
Bonus Tip: Prepare your skin for the massage by pressing a wet and warm towel against your skin a few minutes prior to the massage as this would open up your pores and relax the muscles around your troublesome joints. This would allow the pain to subside and the oil to really get in your skin and do its magic on your painful joints.
